While we’re not sure when we’ll be venturing back into public thanks to the Coronavirus, we do have some ideas on what to wear when it happens.

This week we took the opportunity to shop our closets and assemble outfits for some of 2020’s biggest trends.

Listen in to Episode 68 to hear the stories behind all these pieces!

Resort / Vintage

  • Trend Characteristics: Vintage and sustainability are huge trends this year. Since it’s getting close to summer, why not do a summer vintage look?
  • Closet Items: Vintage Missoni dress, Ralph Lauren polka dot neckerchief, Tom Ford cat eye sunglasses, Zara wicker visor, Stuart Weitzman sandal
  • Where to Wear: Summer brunch, Hamptons day-to-night look
  • How to Style: This look is fun to play up. You could add a jean jacket for cooler weather or add bangles and necklaces for daytime.

Utility

  • Trend Characteristics: Think Army, but fashion – boilersuits, khaki, olive, cargo pockets, straps/belts.
  • Closet Items: Vintage silk camel jumpsuit, COS bow belt, Marc Jacobs pumps
  • Where to Wear: Dinner with friends, Date night
  • How to Style: If you’re worried about the masculine edge of the Utility trend, pair with more feminine accessories.

Hoodie Blazer Combo

  • Trend Characteristics: The hoodie/blazer trend was huge for FW19-20. This comfy combo is the perfect way to elevate streetwear and the pop of color transitions this look right into Spring.
  • Closet Items: Celine grey hoodie, Nordstrom oversize pink blazer, Levi 501 jeans, Golden Goose sneakers
  • Where to Wear: Weekend shopping, casual dinner and drinks, Friday at the office
  • How to Style: This trend is so versatile. You could style it with biker shorts, black skinnies, or a mini-skirt and add heels to take this into a night out.

The Trench Coat

  • Trend Characteristics: There’s always the classic khaki trench, but this season we’re also seeing it emerge in an array of colors, prints and materials.
  • Formal Closet Items: Marc by Marc Jacobs nylon trench coat, Theyskens Theory silk dress, Fendi sandals
  • Where to Wear: Brunch or daytime cocktail party
  • How to Style: Keep it simple – You don’t need a lot of accessories. The trench acts as your accessory here.
  • Casual Closet Items: Marc by Marc Jacobs nylon trench coat, COS tee, Urban Outfitters light wash distressed denim, Adidas sneakers
  • Where to Wear: Running errands
  • How to Style: The trench elevates the everyday jeans and tee look. If you want to push it even further, swap out the sneaker for a heel.

Bourgeoisie

  • Trend Characteristics: Think Celine runway or 1970’s Parisian chic. Pulling this look off is not the easiest, but styled the right way it is sure to turn heads on the street.
  • Closet Items: Zara black culottes, Zara silk button-up blouse, Celine aviator sunglasses, Celine black felt brim hat, Ralph Lauren black and gold chain bag, Jimmy Choo classic pumps
  • Where to Wear: Dinner, late night drinks, or, ya know, at a cafe in Paris
  • How to Style: The mix of high-low is key in this look. You want it to look expensive without breaking the bank. Zara is a great place to find a good silk blouse. But, the Celine pieces really take the cake here!

Liquid Latex

  • Trend Characteristics: Not for the faint of heart – skintight, wet looking, pour yourself into leggings.
  • Formal Closet Items: Zara blazer, Zara geometric print blouse, Latex leggings (unbranded), Saint Laurent heels
  • Where to Wear: Anywhere you want!
  • How to Style: If you’re feeling very exposed in the leggings, pair with a longer top or blazer to give yourself some extra coverage. You still get the shock effect of the legging and boost your confidence.
